Megan Reilly also chipped in a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds in a game where she seemingly always came up with a key basket for Pomperaug whenever Cheshire started to close the gap. In the end their lack of size really showed as Claudia Schneider had a great opening game doing it on offense with 28 points and 6 assists, and on defense with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
Pomperaug 55 Cheshire 40: Cheshire showed up and played better than I thought they would. Newtown tried to make a run early in the third quarter cutting the lead down to 21-17 before Cromwell hit their sixth three of the game and they were just able to hold that lead the rest of the game to come out of opening night with a big ten point win over Newtown. Again thank you to everyone who made this three really fun years for me I never thought I’d have but I don’t think I’m doing what I set out to do anymore and unless I can find a way to change that soon I can’t keep doing what I’ve been doingĬromwell 39 Newtown 29: Neither team was playing their best basketball which is to be expected on opening night but Cromwell got out to a fast start hitting five threes in the first half and taking a 21-12 lead into halftime. Right now as it sits I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to report on sports in Connecticut for a company again and honestly as long as I know I tried to do something to help student athletes I can live with my decision and I’ll do journalism the way I wanted to on my personal account. The important people here are the athletes that deserve to know what’s happening in their state or conference whether it’s good or bad and right now I can’t do that for them. I’m not optimistic about what’s going to happen to me but that’s not the point I’m not the important person here. Just for me at least I can’t do that because if I’m only saying things that are positive then things that probably do need to be changed won’t ever change because not many people are willing to publicly talk about the things in this state that need to be changed and I refuse to fall into the line of yes men who will be blind to anything negative happening and just only post positives and try to make it seem like everything runs perfectly in Connecticut when we know it doesn’t. I just can’t do that all the time because when things start effecting player safety or just the athletes in general I want to bring that up and have a discussion about it but where I’m at right now if I were to do that then I’m getting in trouble because it might not bring the most positive light onto everything. Even if the stories wouldn’t necessarily be positive like what I witnessed and had to sit through for an hour and half tonight that it’s still something that needs to be talked about right now and I feel like we’ve gotten to a point where everything that gets posted needs to be positive.
Because I want to make journalism a career I need to be able to write real stories that are more in depth than what I do at the moment.

Right now all it feels like I’m allowed to do is post scores and do previews but that’s something that can be done by anybody in the state with a little free time. If there’s subjects I feel like need to be talked about I want to be able to talk about them freely and right now this doesn’t feel like something I’m allowed to do. That’s just not the way I want to approach work that I do. It’s just at a spot where I feel I have to be nice to everyone and censor myself otherwise I’ll be the one getting in trouble. Right now I’m at a point where I can’t be myself and do what I want to do to get the coverage that should be given. First thing I’ll say is I never thought I’d have the following I have right now and for that I appreciate everyone who’s followed me.
